History - New Building

Timeline
The original Gurdwara building was in a poor state which required vast sums of funding to improve the facilities for the Community. The old Gurdwara premises were a one storey (as per the original Church Hall), partly made of brick and timber with corrugated sheeting and asbestos roofing.

By 1998, after several years of fundraising and with financial help from both the local Community and the Community Fund, the Ramgarhia Gurdwara Society was in a position to commence work on a new Gurdwara and Community Centre Building.
From December 1998 to 30th March 2001 the Guru Granth Sahib was kept in the custody of Sardar Kulwant & Bibi Satnam Kaur Ghattora at their residence. Until the commencement of Sunday Service on the Ground Floor (November 2000), all services were held at their residence, this Sewa has been highly appreciated by the Gurdwara Sangat.

The cost of the new Gurdwara was in excess of £500k, would have been far greater if it was not for the sewadars (volunteers) from the Sangat. Many sewadars gave up there spare time (evenings & weekends) & some taking days of work to help complete the Gurdwara. Some of the work which was undertaken by the numerous sewadars were as follows:

The Gurdwara Committee are eternally thankful to all who were involved in such Sewa during the construction of the new Gurdwara.
